More Portraits

taking a bit of break from environment design. Realizing what i am lacking and what to work on. there's so much to do but so little time!

Easy Come, Easy Go..

been not too long but it feels like i already forgot how the process of my painting goes.. this paint took way longer than i had hoped for. i guess experiments will remain experiment unless i keep practicing it. need more practice with anatomy..

painting to likeness is fun and all, but gotta figure out how i can incorporate alla prima style painting as my own.. gotta keep myself motivated..

Copying the Original

here is the actual painting of the photo i was experimenting on few days ago. painting directly with colors instead of doing the black and white values first will force me to not care too much about the details in the beginning.

but i can't say which method i like better, as i like to go with the flow and see what works better at the moment. i was so eager to have my own painting style, maybe not having one is my style? time will tell.

Old Habits Die REALLY Hard...

not too happy with this in many different ways..

tried different process but ending up painting the way i used to not too long ago. once the underpaint was done, i didn't want to lose the details so i ended up using the old method. happens when i'm not trying to think too much about the subject, and how much i'm willing to experiment.

as about the painting itself, i combined different references to produce the look i was trying to go for. the look is somewhat satisfactory, need to be more daring with colors.

"i" am the only one blocking myself from going forward.

Jumping on the Band Wagon

taking advantage of the internet and just getting the ref right off it. it's so much easier to just go into celebrity paintings cuz there are so many photos of them you can just grab and start painting.. also there are almost all the possible pose/lighting you want readily available. gotta love the internet. =)

A Change of Pace

another portrait practice.. was having trouble with the proportion with everything. it's better than before, but it's still not where i wanted it to be. took way longer than before. blah.

Quick & Dirty

another portrait practice of the same celebrity i did before, but with color! haha. i really like her hair, so i just wanted to draw them. this time i tried a different approach. i was focusing too much on small details on the last one, so this time i thought i'd try the quick & dirty style of painting. i still got caught up on the facial part, though. need to practice letting go and let loose.

was going to overlay the color but thought it'd be a good practice to paint all over again, so i painted the color over the black and white version. still need to practice colors and values.

it's tough, but because it's so much fun, it's worth it.

Lost in Translation...

Decided to do a celebrity portrait this time, took about 2 hours to do this.

Something is definitely missing on the painting.. proportion is off, and feels like my version of her face is a bit stiff.. When I get more time later I'll come back to it, but for now, i'm more concerned about the value and trying to get the shapes down quickly as possible. I've noticed that i'd paint over and over small part of it, instead of making more broad strokes. More information with less amount of brush stroke--that should be my goal in these quick paintings...

Portraiture Practice

This time I did a portraiture of a friend (with her permission of course) Been making small adjustments for a while, but now it's time to move on to something else. It turned out better when i wasn't really thinking about the process or the structure, but when i was just putting values and overall shapes in. I'm not sure if that's how it works, but somehow it worked, and i'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

original picture is way better.. *laughter*

The Good Old Pencil

Time sure does pass by quickly... Not enough hours in a day. I come home and eat, and watch an episode of TV show, and it's already time to sleep..

wish i had like 48 hours in a day.. sleep for 6 hours, work for 8 hours and rest of it would be free time to work on more personal stuff *laughter*

It definitely is a challenge, but still having fun working.

Few pencil sketch I did about a month ago, I wonder how many people will recognize the top 2?

Definitely loving the drawing. I would die happy if I died while sketching. haha.
